Spot On Pet Portraits

choosing a reference photo

what makes a good reference photo

  •  Well lit
  • In Focus
  • Entire face visible
  • Taken from a level angle
  • Pet is upright (sitting or standing is best; if lying down best for pet  to be upright)
  • Include a very clear or zoomed in photo of the eyes so I can accurately capture the color

problems with reference photos

  • Pet is wearing a hat or a costume
  • Dark shadow over part of the photo
  • When enlarged, photo is no longer in focus (high resolution, larger files are best)

Other selection criteria:

  • Feel free to send multiple photos and be open to suggestions— any suggestion I make is geared toward providing you with the best finished product I can create.

file size

High resolution photos (with larger size files) are best

adorable photos that don’t translate well into paintings
